Arabic Jewellery Engraving: Preparing an Accurate Production Proof

An Arabic jewellery engraving brief needs a visual approval as well as the intended wording.

An Arabic jewellery engraving brief needs a visual approval as well as the intended wording. Text can change appearance when it moves between software, fonts and file formats. A correct message in a chat window therefore does not automatically establish the artwork that should be engraved.

A&M's engraving service includes English and Arabic text for rings and bangles. The following practical checks help a retailer supply an unambiguous proof. Translation and the meaning of a personal inscription should be approved by the client or a suitably fluent reviewer.

Obtain the final wording first

Ask the client to approve the exact words, names, punctuation and any date. Preserve that approved source alongside the artwork. If a translation is required, settle it before discussing the available engraving space rather than shortening the text at the bench.

Do not retype an unfamiliar name from a photograph when a verified text version can be supplied. If the only reference is handwritten, have the interpretation confirmed explicitly before turning it into production artwork.

Check the actual rendered proof

Review the joined letterforms, direction and spacing in the exported proof, not only in the document used to create it. A missing font or unsuitable export can produce a different result. The client should approve the version the workshop will actually receive.

Keep editable text as supporting information, but identify which visual proof controls the appearance. A change of font after approval is a design change, even if the underlying wording remains identical.

Confirm the scope before work starts

Supply the relevant photographs, measurements and known material details. Ask the workshop to assess the proposed work.

Show the inscription on the piece

Mark the start point, reading orientation and available area on a photograph or drawing of the actual ring or bangle. Include seams, existing marks and features that must remain clear. A flat line of artwork may not demonstrate how a long inscription sits around a curved surface.

Ask the workshop to assess legibility at the intended size. Enlarging the proof on a phone can conceal the practical effect of small lettering. The aim is an achievable inscription, not an attractive oversized preview.

Control revisions through production

Give each proof an identifiable version and remove superseded versions from the current instruction. If the client changes a date or word, ask the workshop to confirm whether work has started before assuming the amendment can be incorporated.

The engraving sequence guide explains why the timing also depends on access and finishing. Agree those stages with the workshop while approving the artwork, especially when several pieces carry different inscriptions.

Approve wording and placement together

A complete approval identifies both the final copy and its position. At collection, compare the inscription with that same proof rather than relying on recollection of the original conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Can the workshop choose the translation?

The client should supply and approve the intended wording. Do not assume that an engraving service includes translation or interpretation of personal names.

Is a screenshot enough?

A clear screenshot can support a discussion, but the workshop should confirm the production file it needs. The approved proof must remain legible and identify the intended size and placement.
