Workshop detail

Stone, mount and setting profile are assessed as one system.

We assess the actual stone and mount together. Stone dimensions, shape and girdle condition are more useful for fit than carat weight alone.

The seat, claws, gallery and surrounding metal must be capable of holding the stone. If the mount is worn, distorted or incorrectly prepared, corrective work is discussed before setting.

Precise preparation, placement and security.

  1. 01

    Match

Confirm the stone, mount and job reference, including the intended orientation.

  2. 02

    Inspect

Check the stone, existing seats, claw profile and the condition of the surrounding metal.

  3. 03

    Prepare and set

Prepare the seat and secure the stone using the specified setting style.

  4. 04

    Finish and inspect

Refine the setting, clean the piece and check security, alignment and finish during close inspection.

Exact dimensions and an unambiguous stone map are essential.

  • Stone shape and exact dimensions
  • Stone type and any known treatments
  • Setting style required
  • Mount metal and current condition

Dimensions and photographs reduce uncertainty, but fit and condition are confirmed from the stone and mount themselves.

Setting profile and stone dimensions establish the rate.

Centre-stone rates vary by normal, talon, V and square claw profiles. Diamonds and gemstones of 4 ct and above start from separate rates. Small stones are grouped by measured diameter, while damaged or complex mounts are quoted.

Prices exclude VAT. For multi-stone work, include measured sizes and quantities by position. VAT is added at the applicable rate.
