Acceptance before dispatch
Workshop by Post is available only to approved trade-account holders and only for jobs we have accepted for postal handling. Do not send jewellery until A&M has issued the job reference, confirmed the current delivery address and agreed the delivery method.
An enquiry, draft quotation or previous delivery address is not permission to send. We may require a high-value, unusual, fragile or irreplaceable item to be handed over in person or carried by a specialist provider.
Create a complete dispatch record
Before packing, photograph each item, record the quantity and identifying features, and retain any relevant weight, dimensions, stone report or serial information. The declared value must be accurate and supported by evidence if a carrier or insurer later requests it.
Include the A&M job reference and an item list inside the parcel. Do not place unnecessary personal data, stone values or words indicating jewellery or valuables on the outer packaging.
Packing jewellery
Each piece should be clean and dry, immobilised and wrapped separately in a soft protective material. Chains, loose stones, earrings and detachable components must be individually contained and labelled so they cannot rub, tangle or escape.
Place the protected items inside a rigid inner container, cushion movement, and place that container inside a strong, plain and securely sealed outer package. Packaging must also meet the chosen carrier's current rules. Photograph the sealed parcel and retain the tracking number and proof of posting.
Carrier service and compensation
Use only the service agreed for the job and check its current rules for jewellery, precious metals, stones, watches and high-value contents. A tracked or signed service does not necessarily provide compensation for jewellery, and a compensation limit may be lower than the item's value.
Royal Mail currently directs senders of jewellery and other valuables to Special Delivery Guaranteed rather than ordinary services; higher-value or unusual work may require a different arrangement. Carrier terms and compensation levels change, so the accepted service and value must be checked for each dispatch.
Inbound responsibility and receipt
Where the customer purchases or contracts the inbound delivery, the customer is responsible for selecting the carrier, complying with its terms, arranging any required insurance and pursuing an inbound carrier claim. This does not affect A&M's responsibility for an item after it has been accepted into our custody.
A carrier's delivery scan records delivery to the location; it is not confirmation of item count or condition. We acknowledge workshop receipt after the parcel has been opened, matched to the job reference and checked. Any visible discrepancy will be raised as soon as reasonably practicable.
Assessment and approval
Postal acceptance allows the item to be received and assessed. It does not authorise work beyond the scope already approved. If inspection changes the method, price, risk or likely result, the job will be held for further approval.
If work is declined after inspection, the customer remains responsible for agreed assessment, handling and return costs.
Return arrangements
Before return, the customer must confirm the correct business address and authorised recipient. We will use the agreed service and notify the customer of tracking information where available. No parcel will be redirected to a different address solely on the basis of an unverified message.
The party purchasing or contracting the return service is responsible for the carrier's insurance or compensation arrangements and any carrier claim, unless the written job terms state otherwise. A&M is not an insurer and carrier compensation remains subject to the carrier's own terms.
Territory and excluded contents
The standard service is for dispatch within the United Kingdom. International, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or customs-controlled movements require prior written agreement because declarations, taxes, restrictions and insurance can differ.
Do not include cash, unrelated property, liquids, chemicals, loose polishing compounds, hazardous materials or any item prohibited by the chosen carrier. Any battery-powered or regulated item must be declared before a service is agreed.
Relationship with other terms
Our Terms of Business also apply. A job-specific written delivery instruction takes priority over these general postal conditions. Personal data and delivery records are handled under our Privacy Policy.
Questions should be raised before dispatch through our contact page, by email at contact@aandmpolishers.com, or by telephone on 020 3904 1004.
