Workshop Practice
Sending jewellery to the workshop
Agree the job first, separate every piece and keep evidence of condition and packing.

Workshop by Post begins with job acceptance. A&M should confirm where the parcel is going, how it should be referenced and which delivery method and declared value are appropriate before anything is sent.
The postal service starts before the parcel is packed.
The workshop must first accept the job and confirm the delivery route. That keeps the item reference, destination and expected parcel connected before valuables enter the postal network.
Carrier service names are not enough on their own. The sender should check the current terms, compensation limit, exclusions and packaging requirements against the actual value and contents.
Before packing
- Wait for the job-specific sending instructions.
- Photograph each item and any existing damage.
- Remove presentation packaging unless A&M has asked for it.
- Place the job reference inside, not a description of valuables outside.
Inside the parcel
- Wrap pieces separately so they cannot touch.
- Protect projecting settings, chains and moving parts.
- Use an inner container that prevents movement, then a strong discreet outer package.
- Do not allow labels or staples to contact the jewellery.
Delivery and evidence
- Use only the agreed service and declared value.
- Check the carrier terms and compensation exclusions before posting.
- Keep photographs of the packed parcel, proof of posting and tracking.
- Tell A&M the tracking reference through the approved channel.
Avoid these postal handover problems
- Sending jewellery before the job and address are confirmed.
- Allowing separate pieces or chains to move against one another.
- Describing valuables on the outside of the parcel.
- Assuming a signed or tracked service automatically covers jewellery to its full value.
